They go cruising in a\u00a0<strong>P\u00e9nichette<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/strong>\u00a0 twice a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When we started taking\u00a0<strong>holidays with Locaboat<\/strong>, over 20 years ago, we already had a good deal of\u00a0<strong>boating\u00a0<\/strong>experience. We used to do a lot of sailing on the lakes in Switzerland, and what we really liked about the\u00a0<strong>Locaboat P\u00e9nichettes<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/strong>\u00a0was how \u201copen on the outside\u201d they are. You can get all the way round the boat, which makes docking and manoeuvring a lot easier. It&#8217;s worth knowing that most inland waterway vessels are designed in the Northern hemisphere where people like to stay inside and keep warm. Here, we\u2019re not like that! We\u2019re in and out of our boats all the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve travelled all round France and still do, two or three times a year. But we do like going to other countries as well; we enjoy\u00a0<a title=\"Boating holidays in Ireland and Germany\" href=\"https:\/\/www.riverly.com\/en\/boating-holidays\/ireland\/shannon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cruising in Ireland and Germany<\/a>. What we really liked on our\u00a0<a title=\"canal holiday to Mecklenburg\" href=\"https:\/\/www.riverly.com\/en\/boating-holidays\/germany\/mecklenburg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">canal holiday to Mecklenburg<\/a>, near Berlin, was the constant switching from canals to lakes and back to canals. This region has some very large expanses of water. It\u2019s beautiful, and there are very few tourists around. In France, it\u2019s the changing scenery and the picturesque villages that make it so delightful, whereas over there it\u2019s the vast expanses of water. You can moor up on the lakes, spend the night at anchor and swim in the very clear and clean water. It\u2019s a little piece of paradise for fishing enthusiasts and bird lovers too, with some remarkable flora and fauna. But you need to have fairly good sea legs, because the waters aren\u2019t as smooth as on the canals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Germany has another little bonus in that its\u00a0<strong>self-drive boats<\/strong>\u00a0are exceptionally neat, and the bedding is even better than in France, with super soft duvets\u2026 Really luxurious!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Francis and Fran\u00e7oise Richard, a 70-something-years-young Greek couple, have been regular Locaboat customers since 1991.
