Discovering our departure base of Mâcon

Discovering our departure base of Mâcon

Discover our departure base in Burgundy: Mâcon. Enjoy a wonderful canal cruise full of history, vineyards, local specialties and nature.
The plan includes a landing stage that has been especially reserved for Locaboat at the entrance to the port of Mâcon, which has itself been completely refurbished in 2015. There are toilet and washing facilities, services and a harbourmaster’s office to make life easier. Another advantage of this base is that it’s very easy to get to. It’s only a ten-minute drive from three motorways and two railway stations (the Mâcon Centre regional station and the Mâcon Loche station with its TGV service). And it’s only one hour from Lyon’s Saint-Exupéry Airport. We’ve thought of everything to make sure your holiday is comfortable. You won’t need a car, because the base is only 15 minutes’ walk from the centre of Mâcon and its shops. Despite that, it’s set in the middle of a pretty park, far from the madding crowd. It’s like having a town in the middle of the countryside! As for facilities, there are 100 square metres of offices, access to drinking water and electricity, a cycle hire service and enclosed parking. So what difference will it make when it comes to boating routes? Well, quite a lot! If you’re looking for something a bit different and adventurous, you could head southwards along the Saône and cruise into the heart of Lyon in ten hours or so. Or if you prefer taking things easy and enjoying the natural surroundings, you could choose to head northwards, along the Seille, a magnificent river that winds its way through a pastoral landscape with châteaux and mills dotted here and there. In the heart of the Bresse, a region famed for its gastronomy, you will pass through medieval villages such as Louhans, where a livestock market is held every Monday morning. Or stop at Cuisery, a book village with an entire street of second-hand booksellers. And it’s worth noting that the River Seille has been included in the Natura 2000 list of protected natural areas. So you’re likely to see some rare species along your way! If you want to find out more, you could stop off at the Centre Eden, which is devoted to the natural environment of this wonderful region.
