With a total of 250 square kilometres stretching over 83 km in length and with a perimeter of 1160 km, the Grande Lago (or Lago Alqueva as it is also known) offers a unique self-drive boating experience and interests and activities to suit everyone. You’ll collect your canal boat from the Riverly base which is located in the charming village of Amieira. No previous boating experience or a licence is needed – simply receive instructions and information from the Riverly team before setting off on an unforgettable cruise where sunshine and clear waters await whatever time of year you travel.
The Amieira base is located a few kilometres from the Spanish border. You can travel by plane: Lisbon and Faro airports are located only 2 hours drive from the base, while Seville airport in Spain is 3 hours away from Amieira.
If you come by car or taxi, make sure you stop in Portel, located about 18 km before arriving at the village of Amieira. There is a large supermarket where you will find everything you need to do your shopping! If you do not have the opportunity to stop there, or do not want to worry about getting your groceries on route, then our team at the Amieira base has a shop that offers most items (except fresh products). Better yet: you can even order from home (ask us the form) prior to your holiday and the base team will deliver your order directly onto your boat ready for your arrival!
