Vesting is a beautifully restored fortified town in the Dutch municipality of Heusden (province of North Brabant), located on the Bergsche Maas. This gem on the Meuse River boasts charming shops, art galleries, spacious harbors, and welcoming terraces. On Sunday afternoons, the shops are open, and you can also join an interesting guided walking tour at 2:30 p.m. The town was built around one of the oldest water castles in northwestern Europe and was also one of the first Dutch cities to be entirely enclosed by a wall. It feels like stepping back in time and returning to the present, as if just passing through. The street layout of Heusden dates back to the Middle Ages. The town walls,with their cannons looming over the Meuse,along with the windmills, fortified harbor, and cobbled streets, all contribute to a truly timeless atmosphere.
