Each year, Riverly strengthens its commitment to river tourism that’s ever more respectful of local areas and nature.
Since 2025, 100% of the fleet directly operated by Riverly (formerly Locaboat and Nicols) has been converted to HVO fuel, hydrotreated vegetable oil that is biodegradable and renewable. This change has enabled us to reduce CO₂ emissions by 92%. Since 2018, we have also offered 2 electric boats in Alsace.
By 2026, six Riverly departure bases had already earned Blue Flag certification, a distinction that attests to their high standards for sustainable tourism.
What is the Blue Flag certification?
The Blue Flag is an internationally recognised certification awarded each year to beaches, marinas and inland ports that demonstrate excellence in environmental management, sustainability and visitor services.
In France, as of 2025, only 31 inland river ports had achieved Blue Flag certification. Six of these are the Riverly bases at Corbigny, Joigny, Saint-Martin-sur-Oust, Saintes, Saint-Léger-sur-Dheune and Buzet-sur-Baïse.
Just as Locaboat and Nicols did in previous years, Riverly is participating in efforts to replant trees along the Canal du Midi. To date, more than 21,000 trees have been replanted.
Maintenance of Riverly-operated boats is done using environmentally friendly cleaning products. 100% of the Riverly-owned fleet is equipped with onboard recycling bins, and waste sorting is available at all our bases.
