A charming “green town” with character, Port-sur-Saône enjoys a picturesque location along the Saône River and its lateral canal. Here, the blue of the water blends beautifully with the green of the surrounding forests and countryside. Before boarding your boat, take time to stroll through the town and admire its typical Comtois bell tower. Also worth a visit: the Maladière wildlife park, located along the river, home to fallow deer and llamas. A nearby pony club also welcomes young children for an introduction to horse riding.
Since 1886, the famous swing bridge of Selles has allowed passage over the Vosges Canal. Built in the late 19th century and now a listed historic monument, it is one of only two such structures still in operation in France. From Selles, you can also reach Passavant-la-Rochère (4 km), where the glassworks continue the tradition of glassblowing dating back to 1475.
Overlooking the village, the medieval castle still stands. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Fontenoy-le-Château gained worldwide fame for its embroidery. The local museum displays rare pieces from the town’s 500 embroiderers.
In the Val de Vôge, the art deco thermal spa of Vôge-les-Bains (formerly Bains-les-Bains) offers a peaceful break amid beautiful parkland.
