The town is especially known for its Lübzer brewery, in operation since 1877. Before setting off on your river cruise, take time to explore the charming medieval town center of Lübz and its iconic landmarks: the Bailiff’s House, the Rose Garden, the Ziegenmarkt (Goat Market), the Bailiff’s Tower,the only remaining part of the 14th-century castle, now housing a museum,the water tower, and the planetarium.

Parchim

Parchim is well worth a stop during your boating holiday through the rivers and lakes of Mecklenburg. Don’t be surprised if locals mention the word “Pütt”,it’s the affectionate nickname for Parchim’s old town. Take a stroll through one of the oldest towns in Mecklenburg, which has preserved its old-world charm with grand half-timbered houses and many medieval-style buildings.

Matzlow-Garwitz

On the 45 km canal stretch between Parchim and Schwerin, expect lush nature reserves with grazing animals and bird colonies. Stop at the little halt between Matzlow and Garwitz for supplies and to appreciate local heritage (a Gothic church in Garwitz, a timber-framed one in Matzlow).

Schwerin

Once the residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg, Schwerin is often called the “city of seven lakes and seven forests.” Its most iconic landmark is the fairy-tale Schwerin Castle, set on an island between Lake Schwerin and the Burgsee. The city also offers a rich cultural scene, including theaters and summer open-air operas. Don’t miss the historic center with its thatched roofs, the lively market square, and the Gothic cathedral from the 14th and 15th centuries.
