Glénac
Our Riverly base is located at the confluence of the Oust and the Aff. It’s a perfect starting point for cruises through the green heart of Brittany.
Redon
Historic city with pedestrian streets and a marina in the heart of town. Explore its abbey, market, and waterside terraces.
Pont Miny
A quiet stop with picnic and barbecue areas, near the “maison du canal” , a local guesthouse.
Guenrouët
Kids will love the swimming pool with slides and mini-golf, while adults can explore Kerisac Cider House (boutique, tasting room, and video about traditional Breton cider-making).
Blain
A great stop on the Nantes–Brest Canal. Visit the Château de la Groulais (1108), just steps from the port, home to a gourmet restaurant and summer medieval shows. Various walking trails also start from the port.
Nantes
After passing through the last lock (Quiheix Lock) on the Nantes–Brest Canal, your cruise continues on the Erdre River,a charming small river that has retained a wild aspect (notable flora and fauna in the “Mazerolles Plain”). You’ll follow the Erdre towards the capital of the Dukes of Brittany. Nantes (Naoned in Breton) is a historic city that will charm you with its ancient monuments: Saint-Pierre Cathedral (12th century), the Château of the Dukes of Brittany, and the Memorial to the Abolition of Slavery... But Nantes is best known for its extraordinary tourist draw, the Machines of the Isle, and its innovative summer event: the Voyage à Nantes, a trail connecting art, culture, sport, and gastronomy across the city.
Rieux
Nicely equipped canal stop with a restaurant, campsite, and a hike to medieval castle ruins.
Foleux
Consider stopping in the village of Foleux, which also offers a pontoon along the Vilaine. Don’t be surprised by the presence of small sailboats and sea vessels, the calm, wide river is navigated by many boats coming in from the nearby Atlantic Ocean.
La Roche-Bernard
You’ve reached a key stop on your journey. Moor at the pontoons on the Vilaine River, as the old port is hard to access. From there, head to the old town and explore the artisan-filled streets of the medieval quarter. Visit the Maritime Museum of the Vilaine River or the Bee House (Maison de l’abeille), then return to your boat and cruise back along the Vilaine and the Nantes–Brest Canal, finishing your two-day journey by returning your houseboat at the Glénac base.
